#1 New York Times–bestselling author: "Nobody does Victorian romance hijinks like Alexander . . . Fabulously snappy banter, and a soupçon of sex." —Publishers Weekly

Delilah, the very proper widowed Lady Hargate, and Mr. Samuel Russell, previously acquainted during one unforgettable night in New York City when caution—and clothing—were thrown to the wind, will choose to pretend they have never met before when they wind up at the same wedding months later in England.

The lady plans to avoid love and its complications at all costs. The gentleman intends to change her mind.

Guests are invited to enjoy the many diversions of Millworth Manor as Delilah's sister and Samuel's friend are joined in matrimony—delightful grounds, lavish drawing rooms, secluded corners—and for Delilah and Samuel, the chance to discover that one night may have been only the beginning . . .

"Sparkling dialogue and endearing characters make this an enthralling read." —Sabrina Jeffries, New York Times–bestselling author
"Alexander's latest wickedly funny historical romance is the perfect synthesis of love and laughter." —Booklist

Nobody does Victorian romance hijinks like Alexander. The third romance set at Millworth Manor (after The Importance of Being Wicked) is abuzz with preparations for the wedding of Camille, Lady Lydingham, and Grayson Elliott. But the real stars of this drama are Camille’s younger sister, Delilah, Lady Hargate, and Gray’s American business associate Samuel Russell. Alexander front loads the action with Delilah and Sam enjoying a discreet romp in his New York hotel room, months before the wedding. Dee returns to England certain she will never again lay eyes—or anything else—on Sam again, and when he arrives at Millworth to attend the wedding, Dee pretends not to know him. Much harder is pretending not to love him. Harebrained schemes, fabulously snappy banter, and a soupçon of sex will delight Alexander’s fans.

When Lady Delilah Hargate throws her customary propriety to the wind during a trip to New York and indulges in a scandalous interlude with a man she's just met, she thinks it is just an unforgettable adventure. Yet her "adventure" turns out to be her future brother-in-law's good friend and sometimes business partner Sam Russell and he's now in England for the wedding. Verbal sparks fly and passions sizzle as a pragmatic, very British heroine and an entrepreneurial American hero spar relentlessly and annoy each other brilliantly--all the way to love. VERDICT Rapier wit, excellent repartee, and breathtaking sensuality make this blithe and funny romp a total delight and nicely expands Alexander's growing Victorian world. Alexander ("The Importance of Being Wicked") lives in Omaha.
