This summer, will three weekends in a Fire Island share house be enough time for Maggie Monroe to fix her life, find love, and make sure she doesn’t lose her friends for good?

It’s been six years since Maggie followed her screenwriting dreams to Los Angeles and forgot to look back. But things in Hollywood didn’t go quite to plan. Now, twenty-five and suddenly home in New York, Maggie doesn’t know who she’s more anxious to see: her ex-boyfriend, Mac, or her ex–best friend, Liz.
For Liz, Maggie is the girl who abandoned her at the worst possible moment and an unwelcome surprise who could derail her perfect summer. Liz is recently engaged to her high school sweetheart, Cam, but Maggie’s arrival brings old wounds bubbling to the surface, exposing the cracks in Liz’s apparent happily ever after.
When Maggie accepts her former friends' unexpected invitation to join in their summer share house, a rental named Serendipity, she knows it’s the chance she needs to get her life back on track. For three weekends, Maggie, Liz, Cam, Mac, and their closest friends will take the ferry to Ocean Beach, Fire Island, for some sun-kissed bliss, if only they can avoid the drama of their past catching up to the present.
With the nostalgic flavor of a stack of sepia-toned Polaroids, and perfect for fans of Emily Henry, Jennifer Weiner, and Ann Brashares, this big-hearted, page-turning story delves deep into a complicated friend group as they navigate one messy yet magical midtwenties summer.

A heartfelt reunion between high school friends animates this light, summery contemporary from Chalsen (Kismet). After college, Maggie Monroe followed her screenwriting dreams all the way to L.A. and never looked back, distancing herself from her close friends in New York City. Six years later, after a significant career detour, Maggie returns to Manhattan and receives an unexpected invitation to spend three weekends in a Fire Island beach house with her formerly close-knit high school friend group, including her old flame Mac and her estranged bestie Liz. Maggie left town at Liz’s lowest point and her return reignites old anxieties, adding unease to Liz’s recent engagement to her high school sweetheart. Over the course of the summer, Maggie, Mac, Liz, and their closest friends journey back and forth to Fire Island to spend some quality time in the sun, even as old memories and new drama bubble up. Maggie’s personal growth as she reconnects with her past unfolds with a cozy and comforting vibe, and though Chalsen keeps things breezy, the emotions are real. This fast-paced and sun-filled romp is sure to brighten readers’ spirits.

Following Kismet (2023), Chalsen returns to Fire Island for another carefree beach novel. Maggie Monroe never meant to leave her tight-knit high-school group; it just happened. She was off to L.A. to chase her dream of becoming a filmmaker, while the rest of her friends stayed in New York. Maggie buried herself in her work and nearly forgot about Mac, the boy she loved back then. Now Maggie is back in New York after a run-in with a toxic producer, and she's been invited to the friend-group's beach-house share. Liz, Maggie's former best friend, has been dating Mac's twin brother since high school, and Liz wants nothing to do with Maggie's return. Maggie wonders if she'll ever rekindle her relationships with her old friends. Points of view swap between Maggie, Liz, and every friend in the group, plus other side characters. Chalsen name-checks How I Met Your Mother, the early-aughts sitcom, and this book gives off that show's vibe. Many of the plot points will resonate with readers reminiscing about those postcollege years.
