Harold is a friendly young vampire —but he loves candy so much, the dentist might have to pull his teeth! Now, what if he and the dentist, plus a couple friendly bats, all get caught up in the evil plots of the local witch? It's a wild magical romp for all ages, just in time for Halloween.

Gr 3-5-Harold has lost his teeth due to his love of candy. How can he be a vampire and save his family from the evil witch Vermillion? This playful story, drawn in a simple, scrawled cartoon style in black, white, and "Halloween green," should appeal to fans of slyly humorous comics such as James Kochalka's "Johnny Boo" (Top Shelf), Joann Sfaar's "Little Vampire" (First Second), and Jennifer Holm and Matthew Holm's "Babymouse" (Random), which its limited color palette resembles. The irreverent look at vampire and witch lore, along with the humorous dialogue and quirky, action-filled plot should make this title popular.-Lisa Goldstein, Brooklyn Public Library, NY
